MOST – the Bridge for Balkan Music offers training, mentoring and networking for world musicians and music professionals from 9 countries located in the Balkans. With our support, participants can better reach international audiences, update their portfolios, or apply for traineeships at the most significant European world music hubs. So far, over thirty bands, nearly eighty managers and sixty festivals, clubs, and cultural centers have been involved in the project, and our musicians performed at prestigious international showcases such as EXIT Festival and WOMEX. We have issued three CDs with Songlines magazine so far: the discs contain a careful selection of exciting Balkan music waiting to be discovered.
We also proudly present two issues meant to guide you through the sound space and lands of the Balkans: the Balkan Festival Guide 2022 and the first-ever Balkan World Music Guide. You might become a devoted fan after reading!
The project is supported by Creative Europe – the European Commission’s flagship program to support the culture and audiovisual sectors – , and is run by 11 partner organizations including but not limited to Piranha Arts (WOMEX), Songlines Magazine, EXIT Festival, Password Production, the European Music Council, the Bulgarian Music Association, and more. The consortium lead is Hangvető.
The closing event of MOST Music will be the BALKAN:MOST Festival and Conference in cooperation with WOMEX. The festival will be held in the atmospheric courtyards and squares of downtown Veszprém city, UNESCO City Of Music, and ECoC of 2023. Our events include a showcase program with over 30 musicians playing at various parts and beautiful venues of downtown Veszprém: among them are famous headliners and many upcoming gems supported by MOST.
With a conference aimed at music industry professionals, we will organize networking events and a label record fair open to the general public, listening sessions, and an exhibition.
