We brought together the most innovative directors from Hungary to France (Vincent Moon, Gábor Reisz and Bálint Szimler, Fanni Szilágyi, Attila Damokos, and the Gábor Karcis – Mátyás Kálmán duo) with experimental Hungarian world music artists in beautiful Budapest venues.
The short films are much more than concert movies: they create a visual world for the musical ambience. Truly exceptional short music films were created first during the lockdown and then they became our new loveproject. Our directors created films for the world-renowned Dresch Mihály’s etnojazz string quartet, for the psychedelic and beautiful Odd ID, the popular dark folk rock band, Mordái, and the legendary figure of ‘70s folk revival, Károly Cserepes. We also worked with Ábel Regős and Veni and then in 2024 in true Ritmo fashion we crossed genres, hosted Blogotheque-founder Vincent Moon’s live cinema show in collaboration with Hungarian folk a cappella trio Dalinda.
The short music films produced for Budapest Ritmo are a point of pride for Hangvető, as they are examples of how much we could make of even the lockdown, a time where we felt stuck, but music still inspired us to create something that will no doubt stand the test of time.

Director: Vincent Moon
French cinematographer and sound artist Vincent Moon invites Hungarian folk a cappella trio Dalinda for an act of joint creation. Blogotheque-founder and independent creator Vincent Moon is a master of the alchemy of sound and image, a modern magician of music and film. Prerecorded footage featuring Dalinda, gestures dictated by the moment, records brought to life make the collaboration a unique event.

Music film
Director: Ábel Regős
VENI’s mix of folk songs, jazz and playful electronica makes her one of the most promising acts on the scene. Marked by Veronika Szász’s velvety voice, she creates a dreamy, mellow and memorable soundscape, lifting the listener a few feet off the ground. Young cinematographer Ábel Regős adds his quirky, experimental technique to create a unique coupling of image and sound.
Director: Marcell Bajor
Дeva’s slowly undulating folk-based electronica evokes dreamy-like imagery, no wonder Marcell Bajor and Bence Szemerey dreamed up a five-part etude. The ephemeral presence of the singer guides us through a journey momentous yet abstract, subtly referencing Plato. A spell-binding creation as unique as the voice of its heroine.
Director: Anna Korom
The co-creation of director Anna Korom, cinematographer Flóra Fecske and the Uljana Quartet welcomes the viewer to a multi-generational apartment. The life of a family of ten is seen in its rawness and intimacy, with a complete spectrum of human emotion and a special focus on female family members. The music film presents the smallest moments and greatest events of life, both beautiful and stragely undramatic. The family’s story is told through 9 songs by Uljana Quartet, perfomed live in the very same apartment. The music film is directed by Anna Korom in close collaboration with the musicians.
Director: Gábor Reisz and Bálint Szimler
Mordái is a flagship band of the new wave of Hungarian folk revival. With accomplished young members, Mordái haunts the halls and corridors of the iconic Budapest landmark, the Gellért Hotel. Co-directed by beloved art house film creators Gábor Reisz and Bálint Szimler, this music film has strong lynchian vibes and reminds of the Shining, all the while alleviating the dark mood with goofy and grotesque characters.
Director: Fanni Szilágyi
The music of Odd ID has a tendency to float out to space – their psychedelic and energetic sound draws equally form electronica and folk. Director Fanni Szilágyi is a master at transforming the inner-city jungle of the iconic Budapest restaurant, Twentysix, into a one-of-a-kind stage for the young band. Gigantic palm leaves and ferns, regal cedar trees and majestic monsteras give an exquisite and intimate feel to the music film.
Director: Gábor Karcis and Mátyás Kálmán
The music of Károly Cserepes is just as multifaceted and exciting as his life story and himself. In the music film directed by visual artists Gábor Karcis and Mátyás Kálmán, film scrolls from ethnographic archives come alive on the leaves and branches of a spring garden, using contemporary techniques such as 3D mapping.
Director: Attila Damokos
Everything is different at night. Moods change, rules change, sounds and noises carry different notions. Shot at night, with his music film for the legendary Dresch String Quartet, director Attila Damokos created a breathtaking visual world. Fully expressive of the refined ethno-jazz sound so characteristic of Mihály Dresch, the film immerses the musicians in simple colors, in light and shadow.
